Surfline Swell Forecast Week of May 15th, 2007

Surfline Swell Forecast Week of May 15th, 2007

Red Bull El Gigante Viene
Tow-In Event / Puerto Escondido
Gottaplay.com / APT World Cup Tour
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / May 1, 2007 - July 30, 2007

To Competitors and Media;
This is our weekly Surfline swell forecast and Red Bull El Gigante Viene update.

We're seeing a good run of storm activity near New Zealand right now and it looks like that trend will continue for the next few days. These storms will set up a run of medium size SW swell over the last week of May.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like these swells will offer the size we're looking for through the end of May. Starting around the 20th, surf at Puerto Escondido will be in the head high range, with sets to a couple feet overhead through the 22nd-23rd.

A better SW swell is on tap for the 25th-27th but it looks like roughly double overhead surf prevails (8-12++ faces). The storm creating this swell will pull together over the next few days so we'll likely adjust these numbers a bit as we see the storm evolve. At this time, it does look to be well below the size we're looking for.

Looking into the long range, high pressure is forecast to take over much of the SPAC through next week, with generally zonal flow prevailing. Under this scenario we'll see nothing major develop for the first few days of June. We'll see...

Our next update will on Tuesday 5/22/07, unless something changes significantly.
