Surfline Swell Forecast Week of May 22nd, 2007

Surfline Swell Forecast Week of May 22nd, 2007

Red Bull El Gigante Viene
Tow-In Event / Puerto Escondido
Gottaplay.com / APT World Cup Tour
Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT)
Holding Period / May 1, 2007 - July 30, 2007

To Competitors and Media;
This is our weekly Surfline swell forecast and Red Bull El Gigante Viene update.

We've seen lots of storm activity in the Southern Hemisphere lately and it looks like that trend will continue through at least the next couple days. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anything truly major in the tow-in size range for Puerto Escondido through the end of May and into early June.

In the short term a series of SW swells will deliver head high+ surf with sets running up to a few feet overhead into the first part of the upcoming weekend (23rd-26th).

Larger SSW swell will start to build as we move through the weekend looking strongest by early next week. That looks good for well overhead surf through the weekend and double overhead+ surf by Monday/Tuesday, obviously still well below tow in size.

Going into the long range, charts/models indicate that a stronger storm will develop over the next 72 hours. If this storm behaves as forecast a solid medium size swell would develop for Thursday May 31st-Friday June 1st in the double to triple overhead range (10-15++ faces). A good paddle swell, but likely below tow-in size. We'll keep an eye on this low over the next few days.

You can also check the Surfline Mainland Mexico forecast for further details later this week: http://www.surfline.com/surfline/forecasts2/forecast.cfm?alias=mexico

Our next update will on Tuesday 5/29/07, unless the above mentioned storm really blows up.
